The Story

This 43 mm Worldtimer, cased in brushed grade 2 titanium, has an integrated strap in black structured rubber, with additional decorative link and clasp in brushed titanium. At the centre of the black and grey dial, framed by a brushed black ceramic bezel, OMEGA has produced a vision of Earth, viewed from above the North Pole, by laser-ablating continents and colours on a grade 5 titanium surface. Circling the topographic map is a 24-hour indication, divided into night and day sections. OMEGA’s home city of Bienne Switzerland is among the many global destinations circling around the dial and its outer ring. All place names, with the exception of the British capital are coloured grey. London is in red to highlight Greenwich Mean Time, now more formally known as Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). To complement the matte look of the dial, OMEGA has opted for blackened hands and indexes, filled with white Super-LumiNova to emit a blue glow in the dark. Powering the watch is OMEGA’s Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8938.

GRADE 2 TITANIUM

Titanium alloys are light, corrosive-resistant, biochemically inert and able to withstand extreme temperatures. These properties make them particularly appropriate for products in the aircraft, spacecraft and the medical sector. They achieve the perfect balance between solidity, corrosion-resistance and workability. Grade 2 titanium offers a dim grey colour and suits mostly "brushed" finished pieces. It has featured in a number of OMEGA timepieces used for sport and space exploration, where light reflections should be avoided.

CERAMIC

OMEGA has unrivalled expertise in the use of ceramics, dating back more than 10 years. Taking its origin from the Greek word "keramos", ceramic is an inorganic, non-metallic substance obtained by firing at high temperatures. It allows the creation of completely dense watch parts with exceptional mechanical properties. Ceramic is one of the most popular choices for customers when selecting their timepiece, thanks to its appealing colour range and specific properties, such as it being two times lighter than stainless steel, hardwearing, highly scratch-resistant, chemically inert, hypoallergenic, environmentally friendly and non-magnetic.

SAPPHIRE CRYSTAL

To really appreciate the finer details of a timepiece, OMEGA uses synthetic sapphire crystal with a highly scratch-resistant and anti-reflective treatment. Before the machining and finishing processes take place, the sapphire crystals are produced under the Verneuil process, also called flame fusion. It involves the melting of the raw substance using oxyhydrogen flame and the crystallisation of the melted droplets to form a cylinder. Graded 9 on the Mohs-hardness scale (graded 1-10), the resulting sapphire crystals are virtually scratch-proof and very hard, ensuring an unhindered vision at all times.
